Dizziness can be a debilitating problem. Severe cases of dizziness or vertigo can cause nausea and vomiting, falls, and the inability to walk or drive safely. Mild cases of vertigo can limit your ability to participate in sports and enjoy your daily activities. Severe cases may make it difficult to even get out of bed safely.
Vestibular dysfunction is a common cause of dizziness. Our patients often describe these symptoms as feeling like the room is spinning, feeling off balance or unsteady, swaying, or floating. While dizziness can stem from many different causes, a problem within the inner ear (vestibular system) is an area that some physical therapists specialize in treating.
Vestibular therapy can help many types of dizziness:
- BPPV (Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo)
- Vestibular Neuritis or Labyrinthitis
- Bilateral Vestibular Hypofunction
